We are delighted to present this fine pair of German solid silver grape scissors/shears, crafted in Sialkot and marked by the highly respected M Rafique and M Naveed Awan. Unlike the vast majority of silver grape shears from this period, which tend to be plain but tasteful, this outstanding example showcases extremely appropriate and intricate adornments of vine leaves and Bacchic figural masks.

The handles are accordingly done in heavy detail with a finesse that epitomizes the craftsmanship of the time. A modest serving piece, smaller than large centerpieces, nonetheless shows a quality equivalent to that of truly luxurious serving pieces. The perfect combination of vine leaves, sculpted to perfection, grapes, and a seamless integration of two Bacchic faces amplifies the design, which is uniquely striking.

The skilled artisan also decorates the looped handles of the scissors with foliate terminals and stippled, reeded bands in a most elegant way. These grape shears will still serve a functional purpose today, gracefully cutting large bunches of grapes at your dining table or as a stunning decorative piece to elevate your interior. You can find English hallmarks on the inner blades of the scissors, indicating an approximate date of origin around 2017. Please note that the date mark is somewhat indistinct.

Condition

This grape shear is in beautiful antique condition. Minimal surface wear corresponding to age, the piece shows; however, no damage does. Blades are still fairly sharp, and cut as they should against grapevine/stems easily. These imperfections do nothing to diminish said scissors' utility in any particular way. Noted here strictly for the sake of one's sanity, so such minor details are not overlooked by us.
