PIC Contact-Zone Inspection Records: From Drawing Revision to Batch Approval
A PIC-handling qualification loses value when the approved contact-zone drawing cannot be linked to the sample and later production batch. Revision control connects the component requirement, tool geometry, test record and release decision so that a superseded drawing does not quietly return to use.
Give every requirement a revision identity
The buyer file should name the component drawing, permitted contact-zone drawing, revision, issue date and approving organization. If the contact zone changes, the tweezer qualification must be reviewed even when the tool itself has not changed.
Connect the tool to a permanent model code
Record the supplier SKU, sample code, overall length, working profile, tip width, thickness, radius, opening and measured closing-force method where required. A generic description such as “fine 45° tweezer” is not sufficient for batch comparison.
Capture contact-face evidence
Photograph and measure the working faces at the locations defined in the inspection plan. Record visible surface condition, alignment, edge geometry and any replaceable-tip identification. Do not infer non-marring behavior, particle performance or electrical characteristics from appearance.
Link qualification tests to the drawing
The handling test should reference the same component or representative sample, the same permitted contact zone and the same inspection method. Record pickup, transfer, orientation, placement, release, slippage, visible marking, damage and particles where those criteria apply.
Retain a controlled golden sample
Store the approved tool with its model code, photographs, measured data and qualification record. Protect it from routine production use. When production samples arrive, compare them to the recorded requirements and golden sample rather than relying on memory.
Create the production batch record
- Purchase order and supplier batch reference
- Tool SKU and quantity
- Drawing revision used
- Material and finish documentation requested
- Measured geometry sample size
- Alignment and surface inspection results
- Functional handling-test reference
- Rejected quantity and disposition
- Inspector and approval date
- Packaging and identification confirmation
Trigger requalification when evidence changes
Review approval after changes to the component drawing, tip geometry, substrate, coating, replaceable-tip compound, production method, supplier, force range or packaging that can affect tip condition. A color or logo change may need only visual approval, but it should still be recorded.
State what remains unverified
If ESD behavior, magnetism, cleanliness, outgassing or chemical compatibility is required, name the test method and evidence owner. Keep the status pending until model-specific documentation or testing is available.

Request a revision-controlled evaluation set
Send the current component and contact-zone drawing revisions, required tip measurements, representative samples and acceptance method. Candidate tools remain evaluation items until the buyer approves model-specific evidence.
